Once again, the Dayton City Council passed an ordinance that would allow police officers
to take their vehicles home.  The only condition being they must live now in a 10 mile
radius of city hall now instead of 6 miles.

Hip Hip Hooray for Chief  Sneed. I bet he could sell snow shovels to people in Arizona. He
must have inherited the gene of
car salesman from his daddy.   Even though the sneaky
amendment of the ordinance actually would only apply to one-third of the police
department, it still is a shame Chief Sneed is presenting it to the council under the guise
that it would save Dayton taxpayers money and keep everyone all safer in an already safe
community.

According to what was said to the council, Chief Sneed
“thinks the old ordinance is too
strict"
.   I bet he does.  Like a kid breaking a golden rule and just sweating the whole time
while breaking the rule, just wondering when he is going to get caught.  So the kid begs
and pleads with mom and dad (
or in this case his Uncle Frankie) and presents all the
cockamamie excuses of "
why he thinks" the rule must be changed.  Too restrictive?  You
mean to tell me that  four more miles makes that much more difference?  I guess so, if the
one-third that lives past 10 miles is more than likely already driving taxpayer owned patrol
cars home.  Not to mention the newest employee on board already APPROVED by the
Chief to take the car home and transport his kids to and from school…. AND, be exempt
from paying tuition. Great perks for the newest resource officer!!! The chief sure is slick….

This revision of the charter, now makes It okay to continue this apparent misappropriation
of taxpayer dollars that it costs in fuel and
the obvious misuse of the cars for personal
use.  This seemed to be what the Chief has allowing all along. I mean after all,  why
wouldn't the chief allow this? He does it himself, doesn't he?

Sneed sets a fine example by driving his taxpayer city owned SUV all over town collecting
rent, checking properties, visiting his maintenance man out there at his property across
from La-Z-Boy.  (
I personally talked to the maintenance man who tried to rent me a 3
bedroom apartment for $650 a month
) Maybe his "guys" that work so hard got tired of
seeing their boss run around on taxpayer dollars while they had to continue filling up their
own vehicles with their own money just to check in for duty at the Dayton City Police
Station…..  Good way to make it OKAY now….

Apparently it is a problem for his "guys" to come speeding in to town in their own vehicle
to do what?  Oh their job!  Makes me feel sorry for our volunteer fireman.  Do they not do
the same?  They speed to the scene in their own vehicles but I do not hear them
complaining.  Hey Chief Sneed,,,if the officer is home,,, is he not off duty?

“I feel like our officers need to be able to take their vehicles home,” Sneed said Monday.
And just because that is how you "
feel" makes it worth doing?  What an ego!

Sneed went on to chatter,
"There’s not a week that goes by when we don’t have to call
officers in. My guys go to work when they get in the car and close the door.”
Geez Chief,
who is making out the schedule for your officers?  Can you not plan a shift to competently
patrol in our already, as stated by you, safe community?

As reported by the Herald-News,
Sneed pointed out further benefits to allowing a wider
range for take-home vehicles. He said that "the mere presence of a patrol car parked in a
residential area could prevent crime in that area. When people come in from other towns
and look for something to steal and see a police car parked in a driveway, that’s a
deterrence,”
said Sneed. “I think citizens would appreciate that.”

Well Chief, I think citizens would appreciate even more, not having to fill up the gas tanks
of every patrol car  so they can drive home, go to the store, take the kids to school,  kind of
like you already do. Is any of this incorrect so far Chief? One other thing, a lot of people do
not make $950 a week like you do.

How about trying this.   How about showing some real concern and save the folks of
Dayton some money instead of concocting ways to justify things you have been already
doing and now are afraid you’ve been caught,  so NOW you decide to be open and up front
about it.

Also, if the schools have such an
“excellent emergency response system”  as YOU state,
then why cost taxpayers more money with an overkill policy?   If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
But if it doesn’t benefit you, to hell with the taxpayers, right? Is this your mentality? Just
what do we need to worry about.  At the council meeting, YOU are the one that said
"we
have an excellent emergency response system in our schools"
... and on top of that, in one
of the safer communities in the area
. Okay…  ummmm,  DON’T WE HAVE POLICE
OFFICERS WHO HAVE VOLUNTEERED TO BE ON THE SRT (SPECIAL RESPONSE
TEAM)?

Also in the Herald-News it was reported, “According to Dayton Mayor Bob Vincent, the old
ordinance had been on the books for 20 years, and it had become an issue with several
officers recently.
“We had some employees who couldn’t take their vehicles home,” said
Vincent Tuesday. “The new ordinance puts the City of Dayton in compliance with the
practice we’re actually operating to.”
Hey mayor, If you have an employee that does not
meet certain criteria, should you not hire one that does?  Hello… nice way of saying,
“well
we really been sneaking and doing this all along, now we can be straight out with it.”

Our beloved mayor also claimed that  the city has been working to conserve fuel by asking
patrol officers to turn off their engine when investigating an accident. Conserving fuel
huh?  And now allowing the police to drive an extra 4  miles to and from work is going to
save taxpayers money how?  Simple math tells me that extra miles means extra fuel
needed..  The Herald-New tells us about  all the number crunching and money saving the
Chief is doing here, but  why doesn’t the Herald-News provide any of the information in the
actual reports Uncle Frank and NEPHEW Sneed are concocting.  Notice how Chris' dad
and uncle continue to keep
not only jobs in the family, but land as well. Remember, Chief
Sneed's grade in Economics was a
D and got a half credit, and in every math class he ever
took in high school the highest grade he earned was a
C.   Hmmmm,  just mind boggling.
And folks, Chief Brillance got a
D in  Economics. Now just to keep everything open and on
the up and up. If ANY of these dismal failures that appear as grades on his report card are
false, we will retract this entire story. It is almost how an attorney is taught in law school to
NEVER ASK A QUESTION THAT YOU DON'T ALREADY KNOW THE ANSWER TO. WE DO
NOT PRINT THINGS UNLESS WE ALREADY KNOW WHAT IN THE HECK WE'RE ARE
PRINTING IS CORRECT. But like I said, feel free to
correct me IF I'm wrong...

Even more mind boggling is the way that our beloved Mayor Vincent seems just
"too ready"
to bend over backwards and grant Chief Sneed's every little whim and whimsy.   According
to Sneed,
"expanding the radius (does Sneed even know what radius is) for take-home
emergency vehicles would not affect the city’s fuel budget"
.

Chief Sneed is also reported as saying
“Our guys work hard and Dayton has one of the
lowest crime rates in the area for our size.”
(One of the lowest crime rates, yet we need to
have “
his guys” on call so they can jump in the car in the middle of the night or afternoon
and speed to the scene……to a crime in one of the lowest crime stricken communities in
the area?

If Dayton is so safe, then why do we need to deter crime by having cars parked in
driveways?  Which is it? Is Dayton safe or not? Seems to me we just living in a nice area …
not because ‘the guys get to drive an extra 4 miles in a patrol car and then park it in their
drive….. Come on.

I know you barely graduated high school and almost failed math but aren’t you stretching
things a bit far Chief Cantmakeagoodgrade? You contradict yourself as I have highlighted
in this article. Show the citizens these well researched reports that you base your needs
on that ease your nerves in trying to pull another fast one on your good citizens of
Dayton. To me you just have a bunch of "guys" on the police department that need their
morale boosted by sprucing up their police cars with new black and white paint jobs (
and I
heard this with my own ears from one of Dayton’s finest himself
) and now they don’t have
to whine about gas prices like the rest of us… because now,,, the good people that they
work for will now be paying for their gas to and from work.

Keep up the great work Rhea County Newspaper.Com….. Keep shining that beacon of
light on the corruption in Dayton… They are getting nervous aren’t they…. So nervous
they are making amendments in the charter to make the activities they ve been practicing,,,
suddenly OKAY …..Shame on the
FOUR man Council still making decisions without the
5th council person. Shame on Uncle Frank and his little Nephew Chris.

Seems maybe they’re getting a little scared, finally!

figure one day Special Chief Sneed will be forced to answer for
what he has done and continues to do.

In other words, it's a continuous spot light, dude...
